ISLAND OF KRK
Located in a wooded bay in the western part of the island of Krk, along with about twenty other surrounding villages, Malinska belongs to the area called Dubašnica. Dubašljan Bay consists of smaller bays and coves and thanks to its geographical position, the area is well protected from cold winds, with low rainfall and about 260 sunny days a year. The climate is mild, Mediterranean.
The rich Glagolitic heritage has made the island of Krk known as the cradle of Croatian literacy and culture. Dubašnica itself contributed to the Glagolitic tradition thanks to the activities of Glagolitic priests. Most of the monuments of cultural and historical heritage are sacral buildings, among which, dating from 1480, the church of St. Mary Magdalene, along with a Franciscan monastery. The monastery and museum contain rare exhibits and Glagolitic lapidary.
There are numerous classical and traditional music concerts to be enjoyed in Malinska throughout the year. They are usually held in the atrium of the Franciscan monastery, but also several other locations.
Besides the parish church of St. Apollinaire in the village of Bogovići, another place worth visiting is the church-gallery complex of St. Nicholas in the center of Malinska. The complex is more modern, and during the summer it hosts art events.
The clear sea and numerous attractive beaches allow you to fully enjoy the sea and the sun. The Blue Flag, one of the world’s most recognized eco-labels, has been flying over the beautiful Rupa beach for years now.
Pristine nature, along with a pleasant and mild climate are a significant feature of Malinska. It was these natural features that influenced the beginnings of tourism in the area.
Thanks to the lush vegetation, clear sea and microclimate, Malinska is well known for its natural healing remedies.
Catering facilities in Malinska and its immediate surroundings encourage and preserve the fishing tradition of this area through their gastronomic offer, thanks to which, their guests can experience and taste a part of Dubašljan’s past.
The gastronomic offer of restaurants, taverns and hotels is based on seafood, which, combined with local fruit and vegetables, are part of traditional Dubašljan’s cuisine.
